Event Description

The Business Idea Generation event at IIEST-Shibpur is designed to ignite creativity and innovation. Aspiring student entrepreneurs will brainstorm, refine, and develop ground-breaking technology-driven business ideas that address real-world challenges.

With registrations starting on 26th January 2025, this initiative will call for innovative ideas from students/ groups (comprising maximum 3 members) focusing on themes such as Sustainability and Green Tech, Smart Cities and Urban Development, Health-Tech and Well-being, EdTech and Skill Development, and FinTech and Digital Economy and any other areas of technical and social relevance.

Open to UG and PG students up to the pre-final year and registered PhD scholars, the event is a platform to turn visionary ideas into tangible solutions. Participants stand a chance to win funding support of up to ₹7.50 lakhs, secure business incubation at TCGTBI, and receive mentorship under the BEC84-Angel Fund initiative.

Currently, under the program titled Capacity Building for Design and Entrepreneurship (CBDE) with involvement of expert mentors (both external and internal), selected applicants are likely to get mentorship and other supports.

Eligible Batches

  • UG- 1st to 3rd years

Comprehensive Support

Participants have the chance to win funding, incubation, and mentorship support:

  • 1st Select: Receive up to ₹4,50,000 in funding, along with business incubation at TCGTBI and mentorship through the BEC84-Angel Fund initiative.
  • 2nd Select: Receive up to ₹3,00,000 in funding, along with business incubation and mentorship support.

Round 1 - The Spark Pitch

  • Written Submission - Idea Pitch (The Spark Pitch) aims to evaluate the creativity, feasibility, and innovation of business ideas. Participants are required to submit a 2-3 slide pitch deck that addresses the problem, solution, innovation, and target market. The pitch should also highlight the technological readiness and commercialization potential of the idea.

Round 2 - The Presentation Spotlight

  • In this stage, shortlisted ideas are evaluated by experts. Participants present their solutions, prototyping and testing plans, and a business plan, followed by a brief Q&A session. The evaluation panel, consisting of experts in various fields, will assess the idea’s development, prototype viability, commercialization potential, and the quality of the presentation and Q&A.

Round 3 - The Launchpad

  • Execution & Demo Day (The Launchpad) tests the feasibility and showcases ideas. Finalist teams receive mentorship from TCGTBI to refine their prototypes, proof of concept, and business pitch. During the event, they present their prototype or simulation, highlight key milestones and outline funding needs.
